The Boat
MV Freedom is a motor catamaran; that is to say she has two hulls and is powered by engines.
Her overall length is 10 meters or 33 feet and her beam (width) is 4.8 meters or 15ft 10in. She is powered by two 160 horse power JCB Diesel engines.
Freedom is constructed from Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) and was first commissioned in 2021. Some say that the deck layout was designed around the large accessible toilet. This flushing toilet has a large door leading into a wheelchair friendly space with grab and safety rails. The toilet has an onboard storage tank which allows for use alongside the pontoon and the handbasin is served with hot & cold running water with a hand dryer to match.
She carries modern navigation and communication equipment including Radar, electronic chart plotter, speed log, depth sounder, two VHF ship to shore radios and hand held VHF radios. She has forward and aft facing closed circuit cameras which can feed images to the navigation screen. This screen can be viewed on a portable iPad tablet which can be viewed by passengers without the need to enter the wheelhouse. When in auto-pilot mode, the helm can be controlled using a remote controller enabling the person viewing the iPad screen to steer the boat. This is done under strict supervision by the skipper and crew.
Safety equipment includes two life rafts and a full compliment of automatically inflated life jackets. As mentioned, a large, wheel chair accessible toilet with electrical flush is provided for the comfort of our passengers and crew.
